Summary

  • On Sept. 8, 2001, a crew of 5 left the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California for a 12-hour trip to Santa Cruz Island (Limuw) in a traditional Chumash tomol, or plank canoe. The voyage and gathering with other Chumash on the island inspired pride and a sense of connection to the traditional way of life of their ancestors.
