A strict judge (Prithviraj Kapoor) disowns his pregnant wife (Leela Chitnis) and throws her out on flimsy suspicions. Her son (Raj Kapoor) opts for leading the life of a vagabond (Awara). Living on his wits, committing small crimes to make ends meet, Raj teams up with Jagga (K.N. Singh), a known criminal and eventually ends up in a court where his father is a judge.
