Jeffrey's attack appeared in the Edinburgh review for September, 1826, as a review of the 2d ed. of George Combe's A system of phrenology.
The concluding essay (p. [193]-279) which has caption title, Thoughts on the truth and importance of phrenology, was written as a separate memoir "to be read and considered in a debating society."
