Yasugoro, a returning veteran of World War II, arrives in a peaceful village on Japan' s inland sea. He takes up temporary residence in a temple and becomes attracted to Natsuko, the wife of the priest's oldest son. Her husband is a POW overseas and is presumed missing. Yasugoro helps Natsuko and her family with the work of everyday life in this romantic comedy, regarded by some as being the model for the "Otoko wa tsurai yo" series.
