520    $aRecords of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), an organization of radio and television broadcasters in the United States (1922-). Although most NAB activities concern the establishment of broadcasting codes and support of the industry in matters relating to government regulation, the bulk of the collection pertains to the association's research function. The balance of the collection consists of files relating to the American Heritage Foundation's 1952 and 1956 Register and Vote promotion; John Meagher, NAB vice-president for radio, 1952-1955; a large group of broadcast editorials; and a file of miscellaneous publications. Included are materials on studies and surveys by the Broadcast Measurement Bureau, the National Opinion Research Center, the Television Allocations Study Organization, and the NAB itself.
520 8_ $aThe NAB files include board minutes, speeches by NAB leaders, committee minutes, convention materials, NAB statements before the FCC, and a subject file, circa 1940s-mid 1960s. Files of NAB officer Justin Miller consist of correspondence, 1947-1954, and an extensive subject file on topics such as the industry's struggles with the FCC, censorship, broadcasting during wartime, and the broadcasting of courtroom proceedings.
520 8_ $aBroadcast Measurement Bureau records pertain to two studies of radio audiences co-sponsored by the NAB, the American Association of Advertising Agencies, and the Association of National Advertisers. This series includes correspondence, minutes, promotional material and other publications, and the files of Kenneth Baker, acting director. Also present are research data for both reports and the final report of the second study.
520 8_ $aTwo National Opinion Research Center studies commissioned by NAB on public attitudes toward radio in the 1940s contain correspondence, minutes, and draft reports. Prominent correspondents included here are Hugh Beville, Paul F. Lazarsfeld, and Frank Stanton.
520 8_ $aTelevision Allocations Study Organization materials document a two-year study of the technical aspects of channel allocation. Included are research data, minutes of meetings, reports to the FCC, and correspondence of NAB president Harold E. Fellows.
520 8_ $aThe balance of the collection consists of files relating to the American Heritage Foundation's 1952 and 1956 Register and Vote promotion; John Meagher, NAB vice-president for radio, 1952-1955; a large group of broadcast editorials; and a file of miscellaneous publications. Also present is a videotape and audio tape of Lyndon B. Johnson's address to the 1968 convention.
520 8_ $aThe processed portion of this collection is summarized above, dates 1938-1982, and is described in the register. Additional accessions date ca. 1938-1982 and are described below.
