Records of the dramatic group of the University of Wisconsin-Madison which operated under the direction of the Department of Communication Arts. Dating to the group's beginning (1922), when it was known as the Wisconsin Players, are playbills, photographs, publicity, and scrapbooks. More recent in coverage is a box of general correspondence (1959-1962); some financial records (1957-1962), and production files for performances broadcast by WHA-TV, the University's television station (1954-1964).

The processing of the portion of this collection described in the previous paragraph currently is being refined. The 11 volumes of scrapbooks, 1922-1960, have now been put on 2 reels of microfilm (Micro 962, positives in the Microforms Room). The other materials, 1923-1964, have been reboxed and a revised register is in progress.

The processed portion is summarized above and is described in the register. Additional accessions date 1931-1994 and which include more financial records, more recent production files and photographs, and administrative papers of Richard E. Hughes, former director of University Theatre. Included are minutes of the Wisconsin Theatre Association and the University/Resident Theatre Association.
