"The original plan .. was to preserve, .. some valuable articles of British Topography; to be published in occasional Numbers, neither confined to stated periods of Time, nor to any given quantity of sheets: but paged in such a manner that the general articles, .. might form separate succession to bind in suitable classes" (Advertisement vol.1, p.iii).
The imprint to No. I in 1780 reads: printed for J. Nichols: sold by T. Payne and Son; H. Payne; C. Dilly; J. Walter; N. Conant; and E. Brooke.
The preliminary leaves to each volume were issued in 1790 with No.52; as a result, individual collections may differ in content from volume to volume (e.g. MH-H vols. bound with random issues in each vol.).
Volume numbers (first, second, third, etc.) included in title statement.
