Alice B. Keachie, born in St. Mary's, Ontario, was a pianist, composer and music teacher who worked in Ontario, Iowa and Madison, Wisconsin. The collection largely documents her work as composer, arranger, and educator, and includes manuscript scores of songs and musical sketches principally for piano, pedagogic etudes and exercises for piano, and a small amount of correpondence, newspaper clippings, books and published scores. The collection offers a detailed look into the life of a female musician, teacher and composer during the early decades of the 20th century.
The music manuscripts, printed music, and books (mostly music instruction), collected and composed by Alice B. Keachie are arranged in 5 boxes. Most of the scores are individual works bound in volumes, and organized roughly by genre, i.e., solo piano, instruction, dance, performance, vocal music, violin, etc. Much of the printed music is bound in scrapbook format, heavily annotated and includes newspaper clippings and artwork. The manuscripts are Keachie's own compositions and arrangements.
