This silent film features Renée Spitz's original footage of his studies on child development in the first year and the importance to babies of the basic needs: food, shelter, and someone to love them. The video shows the healthy development of a child who is well-loved and cared for, as well as the problems faced by children who have lost their mothers and who have inadequate mother substitutes, highlighting their mourning reactions.
