Summary

  • Depiction of an execution by beheading of 38 Chinese soldiers who assaulted and killed sick and injured patients at the Red Cross Hospital, during Sino-Japanese War. The print was published in October, 1894.

Notes

  • Sino-Japanese War (Nissin Sensō) nishikie are the woodcut prints published in real time during the war in 1894 and 1895. Many of these prints were used as breaking news of the war and included a brief note of the battle. Topics were the progress of the war, victory and battle scenes.

  • Kokunimasa(Takeuchi Ryūa) had many names such as Baidō ( different character of Bai) etc. True last name : Takeuchi-shi, Active period: Meiji 20(1887-1896)~end of Meiji(1868-1912). Said to be the first son of Utagawa Kunisada.
