Papers of Arlie Schardt, journalist and public interest activist, consisting principally of his notes and original news stories while working for TIME magazine during the 1960s. Schardt covered of the civil rights movement including the work done by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Stokely Carmichael. His collection also includes several notebooks relating to his coverage of the Civil Rights Movement as well as material pertaining to the 1987 symposium, "Covering the South: A National Symposium on the Media and the Civil Rights Movement," and material from the PBS series, Eyes on the Prize, which chronicles the history of the Civil Rights Movement.
