Broadcast live from Buenos Aires all over Europe, a huge concert dedicated to the tango conducted by a native Argentinean, Daniel Barenboim On December 31, 2006, Daniel Barenboim came to celebrate the New Year in the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires in the country where he was born and where he lived for the first nine years of his life. For the pianist and conductor the tango comes naturally and it was with passion that he conducted a huge concert that evening dedicated to this genre across between dance and song. Created and developed in the poor neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires from 1870, the tango very soon became a part of Argentina's national heritage. Before a crowd of over ten thousand people Daniel Barenboim conducted the orchestra and played the piano in masterpieces by Astor Piazzola, Carlos Gardel, Horacio Salgan, Agustin Bardi arranged for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires while the venerable bandoneon player, Leopoldo Frederico and his Orchestra Tipica interpreted a more traditional tango. Dancers with slicked back hair and hits sung by the audience, it wasn't only because of the temperature, which was 34° that night, that Buenos Aires was on fire.
