The Dobbertin Collection of Campus Humor magazines was collected by John Dobbertin, former editor of the University of Michigan Gargoyle. It is a collection of campus humor magazines from American public and private colleges and universities. The collection consists of magazines, bound volumes, photocopies, exhibit material, and books relating to college humor dating from 1874 to the present. CDs containing digital copies of magazine covers, mostly from The Gargoyle, are also included. While there are issues from late 19th century to present day, titles may be incomplete and/or only represented by a few issues. Titles with longer runs include Gargoyle (University of Michigan), Harvard Lampoon, Princeton Tiger, Yale Record, Octopus (University of Wisconsin) Also included is the University of Illinois Shaft, published off-campus and not an official organ of the university. of which Hugh Hefner was an editor. Supplemented by the Joey Green gift of campus humor magazines.
