Records of the state office established in 1987 to encourage the use of Wisconsin locations in motion pictures, television, and commercials. Prior to its formal establishment, film location inquiries were informally handled by Tourism Division staff. The film office closed in 2005. Included are correspondence and reports on the origins of the office dating to the 1970s, scattered later correspondence, videotapes and DVDs, still photographs and slides, clippings, publicity materials, publications, and notes. There is scant documentation of contacts with film producers or of services provided. Blessing is the only film for which a script is included. Many productions are documented by the commercially-released VHS videotape or by off-screen dubs, with some titles such as Back to School, Dillinger, and Maybe, Baby, also represented by extensive still photography of the on-location shooting. Some photographs document the search for locations. In addition to major motion pictures, the film office also collected films by independent Wisconsin filmmakers such as Bill Rebane. Also included are many views of Wisconsin tailgate parties, an annual reunion of University of Wisconsin-Madison football fans and individuals in the Hollywood community from Wisconsin. The series is arranged as Administrative Records and Wisconsin Films.
