Summary

  • Hutchins' diary (1865) of his Civil War service in Alabama and Georgia with the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry, Company E, describing encampments, battles, casualties, pillaging, reactions to peace, President Abraham Lincoln's assassination, and the capture of Jefferson Davis. Also included is a letter by him (1893) giving information on the Hutchins family and other early residents of Hebron and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
