Brief papers of the Reverend Gustave H. Zastrow, including brief biographical information; letters written to his wife Lettie McInvaill Zastrow and their children; speeches; sermons; poems and children's stories; notes and a reminiscence concerning his Spanish American War service with Co. G of the 8th U.S. Infantry; and two portraits and a photograph of his family in Portage, Wis. where he was raised. Also included is an autobiography and genealogical notes in German written by his father, Arnold Zastrow, Sr. and a file of his wife's correspondence, which includes what appears to be a eulogy for a black woman employed by the McInvaills.
Zastrow was admitted to the clergy in 1910 and subsequently lived in various places in the U.S., including Florida, where he served as secretary-treasurer of the Southern Unitarian Conference, and Illinois, where he was associated with the Illinois Children's Home and Aid Society.
