Typewritten copy of a journal kept by David Brainard, one of 12 men who formed the Walworth County Mutual Mining Company and went together from Delavan, Wis., to California to look for gold. The journal contains very descriptive entries from March 20 to Nov. 30, 1849, concerning the joining of their party with that of Agostin Haraszthy, their route through New Mexico to San Diego, the land and settlements through which they passed, and the hardships endured. Scattered later entries include a description of the ship on which Brainard left San Francisco in December 1850. Transcription prepared by Margaret A. Older, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, at an unknown date.
