FBI Special Agent Robert Graham helps the New Mexico State Poilce investigate several deaths. When strange prints are found at one scene, the Department of Agriculture sends myrmecologists Dr. Harold Medford and his daughter, Dr. Pat Medford, to assist in their efforts. When a nest of gigantic irradiated ants is disovered in New Mexico desert, they quickly become a national threat when two young queen ants and their consorts escape to establish new nests. The national search that follows finally culminates in a battle with Them in the concrete spillways and storm drain system of Los Angeles.
