Raised in an age of widespread corruption, when bounty hunters accused innocent people of crimes in order to obtain blood money paid out by the government for successful prosecutions, Garrow popularised cross-examination, establishing the adversarial system of opposing lawyers for the prosecution and defence as the norm.
