Feature-length documentary charting the history of militarism in twentieth century Germany using original newsreel. [WARNING: this film includes images that some viewers may find distressing.]. The film denounces warmongering by the political and industrial elites in the run up to the First and, later, Second World Wars. Focusing on the wealth and power disparity between captains of industry - particularly the Krupp family - and their workers, early scenes feature women and children at work in a munitions factory, and the living conditions of the poorer classes. Other topics include colonialism, international investment, the fostering of nationalism in children, and the formation of alliances prior to the First World War. The second half of the documentary deals with socialist movements before the Second World War, and includes footage of refugees fleeing German invasion, tanks, concentration camps and communist heroes of the resistance.
