Papers of Vernon Tichenor, the first lawyer in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, as well as the County's Draft Commissioner. The collection contains letters to his wife Charlotte, Civil War records, and other personal and professional papers. The Civil War records include bounty and pension records from veterans or their families, most from Wisconsin Units, but also other state units as well as a couple serving in the 67th United States Colored Infantry. Bounty and pension records also exist from the War of 1812 and one from the Second Seminole War. The letters to Tichenor's wife describe the journey to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, via the Great Lakes with descriptions of people he encountered, including Native Americans. Also includes a lecture on reform (1842), a Free Democratic Party Convention speech (1852), and a reminiscence about the 1864 capture of Mobile, Alabama, written by his son, Captain Willis V. Tichenor (1893).
